Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Communications and Marketing leads the Hunter College High School Alumnae/i Association’s (HCHSAA or AA) communications and marketing efforts with a focus on philanthropy and managing a range of projects and initiatives to support alumnae/i and donor engagement.  The manager will develop and implement an innovative, multi-channel communication and marketing plan to increase awareness of HCHSAA’s fundraising and engagement priorities and tell the AA’s story. 

The Director of Communications and Marketing will create print, digital and electronic assets, and manage communications and outreach across various mediums, including AlumNotes Magazines, HCHSAA Annual Report, digital platforms, analyze and track digital analytics, and work closely with colleagues and volunteers to improve the HCHSAA’s brand within the organization’s four pillars: Serve, Connect, Engage and Educate.

In this role, the Director of Communications and Marketing will:

  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, other volunteers and vendors to produce bi-annually the alumnae/i magazine AlumNotes, the HCHSAA Annual Report and monthly e-newsletter.
  • Manage a comprehensive marketing and communications program, including research strategy and execution, designed to support the AA’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategic communications and marketing plans to advance the AA; use of social media, direct marketing, branding and image building campaigns and efforts to increase awareness and enhance the overall image of the AA.
  • Participate in strategic planning, market research and service effectiveness initiatives.
  • Measure the efficiency of all marketing efforts, using the information to continually optimize strategy and future actions.
  • Assist in the coordination of events and programs that serve, connect, engage and educate the HCHSAA community.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a strategic and creative leader with thorough understanding of best practices in communications, writing, marketing and branding.
  • Possess keen strategic and planning skills, a solid understanding of traditional and digital media, and digital media and a comprehensive understanding of the communications and marketing process from creative conception through completion.
  • Demonstrate leadership, vision and managerial skills. And, is collaborative and collegial in nature.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated successful experience in communications and marketing for education, non-profit, social impact or other human-centered fields.
  • Excellent writing skills across a range of applications (PR, web, social, etc.)
  • Strong research skills; adept at interviewing subject matter experts to identify story opportunities and create audience-driven content.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record in integrating multiple communication environments and media formats
  • Knowledge of digital content creation and growth tactics and best practices, including SEO and social media.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, and collaborate with others including staff, Board of Directors and other volunteers of the HCHSAA.
  • Strong project management skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to successfully balance changing priorities within required timeframes.
  • Experience working in alumni engagement and development.
