Description

The Toy Foundation is seeking a Manager, Marketing Communications who will be responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy to optimize communication efforts, increasing visibility and awareness of the Foundation’s role, and its programs and initiatives (The Toy Foundation Play Grant Program, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program, Toy of the Year Awards event, etc.), while informing, engaging, and igniting action in various stakeholders.  Manager works as part of a small team to produce a variety of communications that directly benefit children in need and showcase toy industry philanthropy.

 The ideal candidate will be reliable, creative and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence. 

This individual will develop and implement an external communications strategy inclusive of social media campaigns; oversee web-based communication efforts including online/social media outlets; and manage production of all printed materials and publications.  Where necessary, assist in special projects such as event management.

 Responsibilities

  •  Initiate implementation of the Foundation’s communication strategy, media relations program, program-specific initiatives and marketing plans and related activities.
  • Develop marketing campaigns for Foundation events and program to increase awareness, build industry participation and maximize outcomes.
  • Lead initiatives and create strategies for implementation.
  • Lead ongoing content updates to Toy Foundation website, including the homepage, hospital-grant and DE&I programs. Draft Foundation program emails, fact sheets, and other copy as needed in collaboration with Association content developers.
  • Improve public image, increase media coverage when/where possible, boost industry-wide employee engagement, and attract and retain investors/donors.
  • Initiate social media campaigns to promote events, toy industry engagement and Toy Foundation work. Recommend new approaches and promotions to grow community and stimulate engagement.
  • Assist in the development of editorial content (research, write and edit) for print and online communications, including web copy, internal/external newsletters, media talking points, and more. [Content will span a diverse range of topics including meetings and events (e.g., Toy Fair), program and development initiatives.
  • Develop content for presentations, board packets, trade articles, marketing materials for Foundation and Foundation staff/volunteer leaders, as needed. Develop regular updates for the Board and Committees, including presentations and executive summaries.
  • Participate in industry activities and trade shows to cultivate relationship and build event involvement.

Requirements

Skills/Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s degree required (concentration in journalism, communications or marketing preferred), further study a plus.
  • At least five years relevant experience; experience in a public relations agency, news or media outlet, corporate communications department or not-for-profit association preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; media relations experience a plus.
  • Strong creative skills, engaged in current event industry trends/thinking.
  • Capable of building productive relationships with key stakeholders both domestic and international
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Comfortable presenting in large and small groups.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, execute decisions and work under stringent deadlines and assume more significant responsibilities over time
  • Strong project management, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) required; database experience preferred.
  • Travel will be required as needed
