Description

The PRSA Communications Department is responsible for all internal and external communication functions, and the positioning of PRSA with the media as the leading professional organization for the communications industry. The Senior Communications Specialist conducts communications-focused projects and tasks that advance PRSA’s reputation and reinforces brand visibility through effective public relations plans and initiatives.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Proactively create and maintain relationships with reporters/editors; pitch story placements and newsjacking opportunities that promote PRSA and PRSSA.
  • Research, assess and apply to relevant speaking, industry event and awards opportunities for PRSA and PRSSA.
  • Monitor and evaluate social media activity to help inform content strategy.
  • Lead the development of social media posts and maintain analytics for communications department. This includes crafting copy and graphics as needed for PRSA annual events, press announcements, publications, and rapid response statements, among other topics.
  • Writing of press materials, media alerts, FAQs and briefing documents.
  • Draft internal staff communications on behalf of CEO and senior leadership.
  • Oversee compilation of variety of monthly and annual reports, including highlights for the Board of Directors, Year in Review and press coverage tracker.
  • Lead or assist with the fulfillment of other challenging communications requests from across PRSA.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or relevant field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in public relations or related communications experience at agency or in-house.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media, scheduling software and measurement tools.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects. Attention to detail a must.

Other Requirements: 

Some travel necessary, approximately 5%.
